An Expressive Model for Comparing Tree-Structured Data

چکیده
We study the problem of comparing tree-structured data. This problem has applications in several diverse elds, including molecular biology, natural language processing, image and pattern matching, program analysis, document management, and change management in databases [SZ90, NBR88, WZJS94, WCM94, Yan91, WSC97, C3]. Our interest in this problem stems from implementing a subscription service that detects database changes by periodically querying an external database and checking the results for new changes [CGL97]. For example, consider a Web site listing local entertainment events [EG]. Our prototype allows a user to subscribe to certain changes e.g., the cancellation or rescheduling of an event. The prototype periodically queries the event listings, and uses a tree-di erencing algorithm to detect changes in the results.

A Mixed Integer Programming Approach to Optimal Feeder Routing for Tree-Based Distribution System: A Case Study
A genetic algorithm is proposed to optimize a tree-structured power distribution network considering optimal cable sizing. For minimizing the total cost of the network, a mixed-integer programming model is presented determining the optimal sizes of cables with minimized location-allocation cost. For designing the distribution lines in a power network, the primary factors must be considered as m...
متن کاملQuerying and Updating Probabilistic Information in XML
We present in this paper a new model for representing probabilistic information in a semi-structured (XML) database, based on the use of probabilistic event variables. This work is motivated by the need of keeping track of both confidence and lineage of the information stored in a semi-structured warehouse. For instance, the modules of a (Hidden Web) content warehouse may derive information con...
متن کاملLooping Caterpillars
There are two main paradigms for querying semi structured data: regular path queries and XPath. The aim of this paper is to provide a synthesis between these two. This synthesis is given by a small addition to tree walk automata and the corresponding caterpillar expressions. These are evaluated on unranked finite sibling-ordered trees. At the expression level we add an operator whose meaning is...
متن کاملOPTIMIZATION OF TREE-STRUCTURED GAS DISTRIBUTION NETWORK USING ANT COLONY OPTIMIZATION: A CASE STUDY
An Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) algorithm is proposed for optimal tree-structured natural gas distribution network. Design of pipelines, facilities, and equipment systems are necessary tasks to configure an optimal natural gas network. A mixed integer programming model is formulated to minimize the total cost in the network. The aim is to optimize pipe diameter sizes so that the location-alloc...
متن کاملAlkemy: A Learning System based on an Expressive Knowledge Representation Formalism
This paper describes the design and analysis of a system developed to learn comprehensible theories from structured data. The underlying knowledge representation formalism is a polymorphically-typed higher-order logic. To model structured data, a class of terms suitable for representing a wide range of data is identified. To encode structural boolean features, a class of predicates that can be ...
